Hi Randy

I am getting an error in one of my formula this morning:

=RCHGetTableCell("http://uk.standardlifeinvestments.com/consumer/our_funds/fund_prices/multi_asset_funds.html",3,"Fund name",,,,7,,)
The code is to extract the unit price for the Global Absolute Return Strategies fund.
It has been working fine for weeks and other Cells are populating fine. As far as I can see there is no change to the underlying page.
Any assitance on tracking down the cause would be appreciated

Not sure what to tell you. I just cut and pasted your formula, and it works
fine here...

Try visiting the web page with the EXCEL Web Query dialog (keyboard
shortcut alt+d+d+w), and see if you go directly to that web page. The first
time I tried the web page, I got a splash screen instead of the data. Do
you get the data page or the splash screen?

It has been working finr for weeks and just getting the error message today. IT have been messing with my machine doing other things, so i'll check internet settings. In the meantime I have got the price from another site and the RchGetTableCell works.

Thank you for the reply. I will continue to do as you suggested, clicking on "Continue"; as it seems to work anyway. Thanks again!

What haven't you noticed lately?

A related question, is there a better way to get "real time" Yahoo quotes other than using the RunOnTime sub routine? It seems to be running very slow to the point of being unusable. I have set the # of seconds for the updates to 20 and the # of updates to 1000.

Thank you!

Sounds like you need to array-enter the RCHGetYahooQuotes() formulas into
fewer formulas, to reduce the number of Internet accesses. But that won't
help if you're doing a number of functions other than RCHGetYahooQuotes().

I just tried it for MMM and IBM, and they worked fine for me.

The formula uses these elements -- which are not working for you?

=RCHGetElementNumber("MMM";,960)
=RCHGetElementNumber("MMM";,964)
=RCHGetElementNumber("MMM";,10026)

BTW, that was just a quick & dirty definition. Not nearly as detailed as
the one used by the Magic Formula.

Hi Randy, Before I ever make any additions or changes to your file directly, I have learned a best practice is ask you first.

So, I presently use version: Stock Market Functions add-in, Version 2.1.2012.12.29 (C:\Program Files\SMF Add-In; 1)

To use rchgetelementnumber #13946 "( BTW, element #13946 is no longer obsolete. It was reinstated on 2013-11-06. )".

Should I delete all the files under my smfaddin directory and download and replace all the files?

I am always afraid my spreadsheets won't work if I mess up and do something wrong.

Thanks,
rr76012

You shouldn't need to delete anything. Just extract all the files from the
ZIP archive into the folder, replacing any file when it gives you the
warning about a file already existing. You should exit EXCEL first, so
everything is loaded afresh when you restart EXCEL.

Note that there are already some new and redefined element definitions
since the last official release.
