question for Randy   Re: RCHGetElementNumber

Hello Randy...
There seems to be a problem with the data at this MSN website, the one you use where it has all the information together...

Here is one example...I am looking for the MSN Stock Scouter Rating for the stock SDRL

http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/research/sreport.asp?CR=1&AF=1&IH=1&AIE=1&AIR=1&FRH=1&FRK=1&ISA=1&ISQ=1&BSA=1&BSQ=1&CFA=1&CFQ=1&TYS=1&ITT=1&ITP=1&Type=Equity&Symbol=SDRL

The above website, the one you say you use, shows N/A.

However, If I go to the MSN Stock Scouter site,

http://investing.money.msn.com/investments/stock-ratings?symbol=SDRL&

...it shows me that the MSN Stock Scouter rating is 7.

This is one example. There are other examples.

Question: How would I use your tools to get the '7' from this website?
Pls show formula, and I could change it for other stock tickers. Thanks a lot.

Try:

=smfGetTagContent("
http://investing.money.msn.com/investments/stock-ratings?symbol=SDRL
","div",-2,">Scouter")

Getting cells from columns

Posted by: "csegovia0238" csegovia0238@yahoo.com   csegovia0238

I am using the RCHGetTableCell function to get information from a table in this website: http://www.ism.ws/ismreport/index.cfm

I set it up so that the URL is first, followed by the number of columns to skip across, followed by the string to look for. How would I set it up so that it will look for a string and then make it skip not across columns but down a column. So basically search for a string on top of a column and then tell it how many rows to go down to find the piece of information I want. Is this possible?

I don't see a table at that URL. However, there is a parameter that allows
you to skip rows, but then you'd do a column count from the start of the
row. Check the documentation for details.

another question for Randy regarding RCHGetElementNumber(x, 543)

Posted by: "investor952" investor952@yahoo.com   investor952

Hello Randy,

In Excel, I am trying to get the MSN Stock Scouter Rating for PMT.
It is returning N/A.

Yet, when I go to the website you use:

http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/research/sreport.asp?CR=1&AF=1&IH=1&AIE=1&AIR=1&FRH=1&FRK=1&ISA=1&ISQ=1&BSA=1&BSQ=1&CFA=1&CFQ=1&TYS=1&ITT=1&ITP=1&Type=Equity&Symbol=PMT

It shows a '9'.

FUNDAMENTAL DATA
Debt/Equity Ratio NA
Gross Margin -5710.78%
Net Profit Margin 52.83%
Total Shares Outstanding 27.8 Mil
Market Capitalization 463.84 Mil
Earnings/Share 1.82
StockScouter Rating 9

Why isn't the formula picking it up?

Also, as per my previous message..there are also cases where this website does show N/A, but the MSN Stock Scouter website shows the number and appears to be more up to date. Thanks.

Interesting. I tried:

=RCHGetElementNumber("PMT",543)

...and it got the 9 for me. But then I used the smfForceRecalculation and
got "NA".

When I go into FireFox and use that web address, I also see values changing
on the page if I refresh it a number of times. So it appears that MSN is
still having problems. Some servers may have not gotten changes or updates
propagated to them, so your results may depend on which server returns the
information.

Re: real time quotes

Randy,
I followed your instructions to log in using the Web Query window, and now it
works so I get real time quotes from Yahoo. Thank you so much for your help and
your program. Today I have been trying to determine how to write the function
to make it do automatic 1 minute updates, but so far have not been successful.
The function I am using is "=RCHGetYahooQuotes(A3,B2:H2)". Please let me know
how to write this function so that it gets the automatic updates if possible?
Thanks again - rwvivid

You don't actually need to DO a Web Query -- just log in using the Web Query
window. Once you are logged in, you can just cancel out of the dialog. However,
when you were in the Web Query dialog, were you seeing real time quotes or
delayed quotes?

Thanks again for the prompt reply. The first thing I did was to login using IE
to see if that would work, but it didn't and I still only got 15 minute delayed
quotes. Then I worked for quite a while trying to get the EXCEL Web Entry to
work, but could not. It may be because I have a 2002 version of EXCEL and am
running System 7 Windows. Don't know what the problem was, but I could get to
the point of highlighting the items on the Yahoo page after using the New Web
Inquiry from Excel. I could mark the item on Yahoo but then it would never let
me switch back to Excel to hit the Import Data command. Thanks for your help.
Do you think that the older version of Excel is the problem?

You would need to write your own VBA routine to do automatic updates. Do a
search on the message archives (or Google) for the "OnTime" VBA command.

Hi Randy,
Follow up question.
I am using the =RCHGetYahooQuotes(Xxx,"Yy") add-in.

It won't update the data every 15 minutes like it should. I have to close and reload the spreadsheet to update. Even an end of day.

Can you help?

thanks, --N

It shouldn't update every 15 minutes. Check out the smfForceRecalculation
entries in the "Links" area of the group for ways to refresh the data. But
you need refresh the data manually unless you write your own VBA routine.

Install smf_addin file for Windows 7 and Excel 2007

I downloaded the files to C:\Program\smf add-in. I started Excel 2007, went to Option, the Add-in tab. But the add-in file was not listed. Can xla files run under Excel 2007? Or does it need to be an xlam file?

Read the documentation. I'm not going to repeat it here. Also check the
"Links" area of the group.
