You had mentioned that if I went down the other way it would open up 12 internets, perhaps this is not a problem would you know the formula for that I was seeing things like. Just not entirely sure how to make them function between 2190 days to 1826 days ago for example.

=AVERAGE(RCHGetYaho oHistory("MED",,,,,,,,"A",0,1,,50,1))
=MAX(RCHGetYahooHis tory("MED";,,,,,,,,"H",0,1,,50,1))
=MIN(RCHGetYahooHis tory("MED";,,,,,,,,"L",0,1,,50,1))

Something like this should work:

=MAX(RCHGetYahooHistory("MED",2011,1,1,2011,12,31,,"h",0,1,,260,1))

...but I'm not happy with the 12 Internet accesses that would require. It
puts an unnecessary burden on a free data resource.

Yeah that definetly is too much to pull I ended up restructing my valuation model to use my original formula rather than a high low system. I appreciate the help.

I'm at a total loss on what to try next to resolve the issues I reported before.

I opened the failing workbook on my laptop and after resetting all the links it works without failures. So I know the workbook is okay.

Apparently, I am missing something when doing the removal and re-install of the addin.

Is there detailed instruction on how to TOTALLY remove the addin?
Apparently, I am missing something.
I have the detailed instructions on the install that Derek Barrett wrote. http://seekingalpha.com/author/derek-a-barrett/instablog

This driving me NUTS!!! HELP!!!!

On the failing system, I have removed the addin from excel, deleted all copies of SMF-addin from my Vista 64 bit machine, rebooted my system, downloaded the latest smf addin version - Stock Market Functions add-in, Version 2.1.2012.12.29 (C:\Program Files\SMF Add-in; 1)
, re-installed the addin and I still get both failures.

Reported problems: NOTE: my working system returns exactly the same sfmgetaparms.

1- no MSN elements work - every element returns an error such as element 24
the smfGetAParms(24) returns MSN;Volatility (Beta);http://investing.money.msn.com/investments/stock-report?CR=1&AF=1&IH=1&AIE=1&AIR=1&FRH=1&FRK=1&ISA=1&ISQ=1&BSA=1&BSQ=1&CFA=1&CFQ=1&TYS=1&ITT=1&ITP=1&Type=Equity&Symbol=~~~~~;1;STOCK ACTIVITY;VOLATILITY (BETA); ; ;0;0;0;0

2. elements 811,812,and 813 was returning error on symbol SIRI now after the re-install it is reporting error on all symbols for 811-813

Smf parms for 811 – 813 are

StockScores;Price Indicator -- 100 Day Trend;=PROPER(RCHGetTableCell("http://www.stockscores.com/quickreport.asp?ticker=~~~~~",1,"Moving Average/Vol","100 Day Trend"))

StockScores;Price Indicator -- 15 Day Trend;=PROPER(RCHGetTableCell("http://www.stockscores.com/quickreport.asp?ticker=~~~~~",1,"Moving Average/Vol","15 Day Trend"))

StockScores;Price Indicator -- 45 Day Trend;=PROPER(RCHGetTableCell("http://www.stockscores.com/quickreport.asp?ticker=~~~~~",1,"Moving Average/Vol","45 Day Trend"))

Those thee elements work fine for me with SIRI. I suspect you got a bad copy of the web page -- timed out, being updated, corrupted, whatever.

If you're still getting the Error, you can try the smfGetTagContent-Quick-Webpage-Examination.xls template with this URL:

http://www.stockscores.com/quickreport.asp?ticker=SIRI

That should allow you to examine the saved copy you have of the web page to see what might be an issue.

To completely remove the add-in -- uncheck it within the add-in manager,
then exit EXCEL, and then delete the add-in contents and folder.

The element definition for element #24 is correct. In essence, it should be
doing:

=RCHGetTableCell("
http://investing.money.msn.com/investments/stock-report?CR=1&AF=1&IH=1&AIE=1&AIR=1&FRH=1&FRK=1&ISA=1&ISQ=1&BSA=1&BSQ=1&CFA=1&CFQ=1&TYS=1&ITT=1&ITP=1&Type=Equity&Symbol=SIRI",1,"STOCK
ACTIVITY","VOLATILITY (BETA)")

Your element #811 should be doing:

=PROPER(RCHGetTableCell("
http://www.stockscores.com/quickreport.asp?ticker=SIRI",1,"Moving
Average/Vol","100 Day Trend"))

Do you see the web page you expect when you use that last URL as the web
address in an EXCEL Web Query? Several times in the past, I've seen
redirections to another web page for one reason or another. For example, an
advertisement or a "too many accesses to web site" type of warning.

I did the addin removal just as you wrote and reinstalled and it stills fails. I even uninstall power off the system and restarted everything and it still fails.

Somewhere there is something being left in excel or in a global but damn if I can figure it out.
Got any other suggestions?

I agree with everything you wrote. However, my vista 64bit is not working as it should with the addin.

Using this I still get error return in the cell.

Very interesting.

Using the query you asked about I get an error screen. Not sure the picture will show up in the yahoo group.
It says " An error has occurred in the script on this page.

Line 1 char 1 error invalid argument. URL is http://www.stockscores.com/quickreport.asp?ticker=SIRI

I get this same error for any symbols when I substitute for SIRI on my Vista system

I do not get this error on my laptop. When I repeat the exact sequence.

I tried at least 10 other URL's for other websites on both systems and I don't get any errors.

Any idea what is causing this error and if that is part of the problem.

To answer your questions:

I am using IE version 9.0.13 (KB2792100) on both machines. I try to keep my machines up-to-date with Microsoft updates.

When I click yes and continue the web page loads with every field correct. The webpage looks the same if I reply Y or N

Well, I have good news and Bad news.

I discovered an old copy of the Addin in the appData/Roaming/Microsoft/Addin folder. I had deleted it twice. But I guess I must have done something between the delete and the reboot to cause it to reappear.

For the third time I remove every reference to the Addin from my Vista machine. I did the same thing I had done previously deleting, rebooting, re-downloading, and re-installing.

Good news is all MSN elements now work.

Good news now all Stockscores elements except 811-813 work but then they worked before

Bad news 811 -813 now fails for all symbols. I can live with not having that information but it would be nice to know why it fails.

This works fine for me:

=smfGetOptionQuotes("gntx Jun 2013 17.5 Put","a",0,"Y")

The comma between 17 and 5 would never work, because the symbol list is
comma-delimited, so the function would see that as a divider between two
separate ticker symbols. If your system/EXCEL regional settings require
that comma-numeric specification, it will never work.

hi,

I started using SMF addin very recently. One suggestion : There are lot of old files and many of them dont work with no consistency #NAME? error and files that are just there lying around.

would it make sense to do a clean up for lot of these files ? I am willing to volunteer. I can put an excel list with the files, Yahoo doesnt do a good job to even filter files by date on the groups website.

Just my feedback.

Thanks,
Dhiraj

Actually, if you use the recommended file location for the add-in, all of
my newer files will have #NAME? errors.

I had to change the location of my add-in because Vista wouldn't allow me
to update the add-in while it was in the "Program Files" directory.

Whenever I get the location errors, I just click on an icon on my toolbar
that runs the smfFixLinks macro. Although in protected worksheets, you do
need to unprotect the sheet first.

It's been years since I've used this add-in, but I was thinking it might be able to help with something and I was hoping to verify with the group....

A)How far back can I retrieve historical pricing data? For instance if I'm interested in a company that was publicly traded in 1950 could I get a closing price for any given day in that year?

B)Is there anyway to give a symbol and a historic time range and get a total return?

Thank you!

I think Yahoo historical quotes only go back to 1970 for companies. Indexes
can go back further.

You can use the smfPricesByDates() function to get the prices for two
dates, then compute the total return.

For example:

=smfPricesByDates("MMM","1/2/70","3/7/13")
