Thank you for your response. I figured it out. It was kind of dumb.
In response to your question about what happened when I put SO in the first ticker spots: I got the double dashes no matter where I put it. But I could put in other symbols into the same slot and get good numbers. Then I happened to try another symbol from my list in that slot, and I also got double dashes. Now I had TWO rows of double dashes. Hmmm...
Then I realized I actually had another sheet that had good quotes for SO .... HMMMM.
Then I realized SO was ALREADY on the list, just higher up! Duh, I forgot about it! I added 9 more ticker symbols, but I forgot SO was already on the list way toward the top.
So that must be the issue! When you put in a ticker that you ALREADY have in the list, apparently you get double dashes. Problem solved!
By the way, the version:
Stock Market Functions add-in, Version 2.1.2017.11.11 (C:\SMF Add-In; Windows (32-bit) NT 6.01; 11.0; ; ; 1)

Thank you,Linda

That's not much information to work with.... :(
I just opened up the template and entered the SO ticker symbol, and it is working fine. So it's not an issue with the ticker symbol.
What happens if you change the first ticker symbols in the list to be SO?
What do you get with:
=RCHGetElementNumber("Version")

Hi, I'm using a "Master" list of mutual funds and stocks built with GetYahooPortfolioView in an Excel 2003 spreadsheet (Windows 7, 64). I added 9 stocks to my list today, and everything is working smoothly except ONE stock, Southern Company (SO) - nothing but the dreaded double dashes for the fields below. Using = smfGetYahooPortfolioView(B4: B38,C2:G2,,1)
Any ideas? Is it just a SO thing for today, or is there something wrong?

With the most recent release if you set the third parameter of
smfGetYahooPortfolioView() to "Y", it should populate duplicate symbols. It
does require a bit of additional processing though.

In the last couple of weeks, I have noticed a drastic slowdown when I update my data using smfGetYahooPortfolioView. I had cleaned up my spreadsheet when I converted to smfGetYahooPortfolioView and have only one array function to pull down all of my data in one go. I noted a distinct improvement in updates when I did that.

I have an older i7-2600 Intel chip and I am suspecting the recent patches, described in the attached article could be what has impacted the update speed. I may have to consider updating my computer.

https://en.softonic.com/articles/the-spectre-and-meltdown-security-updates-will-slow-down-your-windows-pc?utm_medium=push&utm_source=softonic&utm_campaign=cbb614cb-b4a4-4aeb-85ec-6365956ef55b&utm_content= https://en.softonic.com/articles/the-spectre-and-meltdown-security-updates-will-slow-down-your-windows-pc?utm_medium=push&utm_source=softonic&utm_campaign=cbb614cb-b4a4-4aeb-85ec-6365956ef55b&utm_content=

Has anybody else noticed a slowing down of the updates recently? It appears the slowdown is related to internet activity which is what the smf-addin is all about.

Regards... Peter

I've also noticed slower response but don't have and idea of how long things should take. Using portfolioview with 1 table on 1 year old computer. I tested response to do various sizes of downloads. Example: 35 seconds to download a 200 stock list.

I disabled smf-add-in to test without downloads, and the excel sheet loads in about 2 seconds so the slowness appears to be associated with download functions. Maybe its just a bandwidth issue?

Here's what I just did:

1. Opened the template from the web site.
2. Put these formulas in the workbook:

B1: =NOW()
C1: =NOW()+0*D4
D1: =(C1-B1)*86400

3. Re-entered the array-entered formula as:

=smfGetYahooPortfolioView($B$4:$B$411,$C$2:$AJ$2,,1+0*B1)

4. Copied the S&P 500 stock ticker symbols (as values) starting in cell B4
(gives the function 408 tickers to process)
5. Ran smfForceRecalculation
6. Checked my add-in log file

The value in cell D1 says there were 1.63 seconds elapsed from start to
finish. The log tells me it took 0.48 seconds to retrieve the web page.
This is on my "slow" computer, a new desktop I got last May. :)

First thing you should do is check the log (see
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/smf_addin/conversations/messages/34208)..
It can tell you how long it took to get the data for
smfGetYahooPortfolioView(), as well as whether other data retrievals
occurred around the same time.

But elapsed time will be a combination of retrieval time, CPU speed, amount
of RAM, as well as the version of EXCEL and the operating system. Even
other things running at the same time. But 35 seconds seems like an awful
long time for something that is next to trivial here.

Randy,
Back on may 31 2017 I posted a question regarding only getting 5 years data returned from the following function call:
=smfGetCSVFile("http://financials.morningstar.com/ajax/ReportProcess4CSV.html?t=" & A1 & "&reportType=is&period=12&dataType=A&order=asc&columnYear=10&rounding=3&denominatorView=raw")

You responded as follows:
When I cut and pasted your formula, I also only got five years. So I went to the morningstar.com http://morningstar.com/ website using the EXCEL Web Query dialog (alt+d+d+w) and logged in, creating a security cookie. Then I ran the smfForceRecalculation macro, and 10 years + TTM appeared.

Unfortunately, the issue is back, and now, changing pages in Morning Star WEB site using the EXCEL Web Query dialog makes no difference and in addition using the smfforcerecalculation macro no longer brings back the 10 years data.

Can you assist please?

It's still working here, so I'm not sure what I can do? Are you able to log
in using the EXCEL Web Query dialog?

I am baffled by you comment of, "

changing pages in Morning Star WEB site using the EXCEL Web Query dialog
makes no difference". Changing pages? .
