As I also recently discovered this webpage I might be able to give you some tips:

Definitely visit the:

http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/smf_addin/files/Templates%20and%20Examples/

section where you can find a lot of different up to date examples of retrieving the appropriate data.

You have seperate sheets for let's say the CF statement, BS, Income Statement and you can easily analyze each sheet independentely which, in my opinion, is pretty useful.

If you want to have an idea of how powerful this addin can be check out the workbooks "CashFlowModel 17" and "SCSS (there is 5 of them)" in the http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/smf_addin/files/Uploads%20by%20forum%20members/ section.

And always check the Links section prior to asking questions because all the questions I asked on this message board could be solved by browsing that section :)

Problem solved:

As it turns out I have two browsers, Expl 9 and firefox.

Firefox is my default. I never use Explorer 9.

However, it was necessary to turn off the web page cache in explorer 9 for
force recal to work.

CUSIP to ticker for EQ and MF data?

Hi,

I need to turn a few thousand CUSIPS into their ticker equivalents so I can use the ticker to retreive the M* category and style info. Is there a template around I can use to do this?

I see the M* category is element 4812, but can't come up with a way to process all of these into something I can use for a category/style for both EQ and MF data.

ideas?

thanks

I don't do anything with CUSIPS, so I'm not familiar with conversion
processing. However, I think there has been some discussion of it in the
past -- you may want to search the message archives and see if there is
anything useful there.

yes, thanks.

I was crossing my fingers. The issue with processing off of quantumonline is the high number of misses for CUSIPs of mutual funds. I figured I'd throw it out there.... I should have been more thorough in the explanation.

thanks

Complete list of all stocks

Does anyone know how to import the complete listing of all stocks on all U.S. exchanges (NYSE, AMEX, NASDAQ, etc.)? Also, can this be done by industry, such as financials, airlines, etc.?

You can try FinViz -- check the "Links" area of the group to retrieve their
screener output with the add-in.

Of what use is such a list, since it can change daily?

It is a nice list but far from complete. It's about 1,000 symbols.

I subscribe to SI Pro from AAII and they have about 10,000 companies in
their database.

You can export their data to Excel spreadsheets which would be one way to
get a list - it's not free but not expensive as data services go.

The full list from the FinViz screener is 6,819 symbols. Plus you could get
any or all of the other 67 available fields along with the ticker symbols.

=smfGetCSVFile("http://finviz.com/export.ashx?v=151&c=1")

The Zacks screener returns 7,776 symbols:

=smfGetCSVFile("http://screener.zacks.com/export?dummy=
"&$C$2&RCHGetTableCell("http://screener.zacks.com/screens/
"&$C$2&"/run",3,">Company",,,,1))

...where $C$2 contains the saved screen number from their screening tool.
Again, with whatever of their other fields you told the screen to export.

rchgetwebdata error

Hello,

When I do something like

=RCHGetWebData("http://www.reuters.com/finance/stocks/overview?symbol=MGM","Beta",5,39)

I get a valid output, but for some symbols I get an error. With

=RCHGetWebData("http://www.reuters.com/finance/stocks/overview?symbol=BTH","Beta",5,39)

there is an error. The two are pretty much the same except the symbol is different. the url is valid and there is a section with beta.

Any ideas? thanks in advance

Not sure what to tell you -- both formulas work fine here.

Is there a reason you're using the RCHGetWebData() function instead of an
easier, more direct one -- such as RCHGetTableCell() or smfGetTagContent()?

Note that you could get "Error" if there was a problem retrieving the page
-- such as a timeout. Did you try running the smfForceRecalculation macro
(see the "Links" area of the group for info on it) to attempt to get a new
copy of the web page?

One way to verify a page retrieval issue would be:

=RCHGetWebData("http://www.reuters.com/finance/stocks/overview?symbol=BTH")

...because then it's just retrieving the source code and not adding the
"complication" of searching for something.
