There is a function, CORREL, in the Excel Statistical Group.

Here is a 3-month correlation table that I wrote.  It may help you.  Enter the ticker symbols in A5 through A17.  You can change the length of time if you want.

Any idea where to go to use the SEDOL for a stock (non US) instead of ticker or cusip?

Hi Randy

Thanks a ton for ALL your contribution to us

Following your advise couple of days ago, I've used "getyahooquotes" as mentioned in http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/smf_addin/message/124

However it isn't working since some hours ago today (say since morning today - US Eastern Time)

I have the ticker symbols on A2 , A3, A4 etc. typical MMM, GIS, MSFT etc. I have o, h, l1 on B1, C1, D1

I have highlighted B2 to M100 AND array entered =RCHGetYahooQuotes(A2:A100,B1:M1) on those cells

I see only blanks

What am I missing or what am I doing wrong ?

TIA
&

Don't know what to tell you -- it's working fine here. I just created
this from scratch:

o h l1 MMM $84.78 $84.78 $83.60 GIS $39.34 $39.35 $38.99 MSFT
$29.77 $29.81 $29.32

To : Digsuppy :
Hi . I saw your sp sheet at http://bit.ly/M28gYl. Thanks. Quite an interesting sp sheet. Also, that will more than meet my basic need of quotes for a few *hundred* tickers (ref thread below). just one question does this sp sheet refresh data when I load it or do I have to necessarily click on the refresh button ? I use win XP and XL 2003 (at least till date). Also what VBA codes do I run to get results (similar ) to the other buttons ?

Dear Randy

Hate to trouble you, Still posting as I see no other way out
1. GetYahooQuotes is not working since the last 7 .. 8 hours

2. I suspect yahoo may have changed my "location" yesterday / today etc
;

3. I live in the middle east

4. When I try to get quotes for MMM from finance.yahoo.com, I am sent /
redirected to http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=MMM [do NOT know IF this was
the case a few days ago, but this is what it is now]

5. When I click on download data (delayed) bottom right hand corner of
above page, I get to
http://download.finance.yahoo.com/d/quotes.csv?s=MMM&f=sl1d1t1c1ohgv&e=.\
csv
which is shortened would be http://bit.ly/MsRGnc

The shortened link was given to avoid yahoo breaking long links
..nothing else

The csv file looks like this

MMM

83.51

5/18/2012

4:01pm

-0.83

84.78

84.78

83.27

3597584

6. I am NOT sure IF the portion of VBA handling "...'------------------>
Set the quotes delimiter based on server prefix.." considers my location
/ yahoo server etc

hence this post

7 . If getyahooquotes is going to be a problem what the next best
alternative for
- last price,
- 52 week high ,
- 52 week low,
- PE and
- market cap ?

thanks in advance
B regards

What do you get with:

=RCHGetElementNumber("Version")
=RCHGetYahooQuotes("MMM","l1")
=RCHGetYahooQuotes("MMM","t1")
=RCHGetWebData("
http://download.finance.yahoo.com/d/quotes.csv?s=MMM&f=sl1&e=.csv",1)

For alternative sources of the items you mention, take a look at the FinViz
entry in the "Links" area of the group.

Looks like EXCEL isn't letting you get to Yahoo. Can you use the EXCEL Web
Query dialog and navigate to this web page without a problem? Does it
redirect you, or do messages come up?

http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=MMM

Can you access other web pages with EXCEL? What do you get with:

=RCHGetTableCell("http://www.google.com/finance?q=MMM",1,">P/E")
=RCHGetWebData("http://www.google.com/finance?q=MMM",1,20)

Yes. I realise that Now :-(

When I copy paste http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=MMM to a cell in XL and
hold the control key and click on the URL (within XL) nothing happens !!

So click hyperlink and open [from XL ] is not working !

Other responses given below

Command

Result

http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=MMM <http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=MMM>

NO <http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=MMM> response !!

RCHGetTableCell("http://www.google.com/finance?q=MMM",1,">P/E")

=RCHGetTableCell("http://www.google.com/finance?q=MMM",1,">P/E")

RCHGetWebData("http://www.google.com/finance?q=MMM",1,20)

<!DOCTYPE html><html

I've ensured that the Stock Market functions add in is running before I
tried the RCHGetTableCell / GetWebData functions & on my machine, XL ->
Tools -> Macro -> security level is set to "Low"

So the question is : Is this some "options" parameter that I have
wrongly set or accidentally changed ?

thanks and regards

Please don't set your macro setting to Low -- it leaves you exposed to
viruses, and won't make any difference to the add-in. The very fact that
you've added it via the Add-In Manger means it satisfies all security
checks.

I didn't want you to link to the URL from a cell, but enter the URL in the
address bar of the EXCEL Web Query dialog (keyboard shortcut alt+d+d+w). I
want to see if it redirects you or gives you some diagnostic message.

The add-in appears to be working, but accessing Yahoo is a problem.

Randy,

I was just reviewing the code and trying to understand why you are using the URL below which shows stock-report when most of the finding are on /stock-prices with MSN.

Obviously im not understanding the best way to get to a website to validate the source? If this is in the help section, I apologize in advance.

Because MOST of the stuff is NOT on /stock-prices. Maybe just the most
common things you use.

The /stock-report path is a print report that contains everything. So only
one web page needs to be retrieved to get at all the different data items.

For example, none of the 100+ data elements from the 10-year summary are on
/stock-prices.

Here's how to create it -- go to a stock home page:

http://investing.money.msn.com/investments/stock-price?Symbol=MMM

...and click on the printer icon near the upper right-hand corner of the
page. Click "Select All" and then "Generate Report".

That's it. In this case, with MMM:

http://investing.money.msn.com/investments/stock-report?symbol=MMM&QD=1&OP=1&Y1=1&CR=1&IH=1&AIE=1&AIR=1&FRH=1&FRK=1&ISA=1&ISQ=1&BSA=1&BSQ=1&CFA=1&CFQ=1&TYS=1&ITT=1&ITP=1

Each of the "=1" values are telling the print report to create a section of
the print report.

A very ambiguous question. I can only guess at what's happening.

If you're receiving an error when downloading, I need more details.

If you're getting #NAME? errors, check out the item on location errors in
the "Links" area of the group.

Randy,

I am using SMF version Version 2.1.2012.04.07 with the smf-elements-1 that was uploaded in the works-in-progress folder

I am getting error return messages for rchgetelementnumber(s)

ex: 24,25,118,and many others

I tried rebooting the excel program with no luck.

Thanks

What do you get for:

=RCHGetElementNumber("Version")
=RCHGetElementNumber("MMM",3)
=smfGetAParms(3)
=smfGetAParms(25)

Have you tried visiting the MSN web site using the EXCEL Web Query dialog?
For example:

http://investing.money.msn.com/investments/stock-price?Symbol=mmm

Does it redirect you to a different web address?
