Hi - THanks for a fantastic tool. I've learn a lot from the folks that post. Was wondering if there was a website or field that pulls Proforma EPS numbers?

Thanks!

I forgot to give instructions. Open the Start tab and type in the stock symbol in the upper left cell (Blue) press enter and wait about 30 seconds or so for the downloads to finish.

Thank you very much for your kindess.

I think you are interested in downloading financial data, for specific companies, in order to purchase shares of the company, If this is true I have developed a rather simple way of getting the data and analyzing it using "web queries". If you are interested the spreadsheets can be downloaded from the link shown below. The files to be downloaded are "SA_6.0.4"(Excel 2007-2010), and "SA_6.0.4(2000) for Excel 97-2003.

hello, i would like to know if it is possible to get the market cap for a specific date for a US stock.
I am able to do it for the price... =smfPricesByDates(B8,DATE(2012,3,31)). is there any similar function for market cap?
Thanks

You would need to create it yourself by retrieving the price that way, but
you would also need to get the number of shares from another source --
which isn't retrievable by specific date, so you'd need to retrieve a
number of them from quarterly sources and search for the one to use. Which
may not necessarily be correct for the given date because things may have
changed.

I wouldn't think it would be worth the effort, nor actually, would I trust
the value I calculated.

Check the list of elements that came with the add-in. There are a few
choices, so I'm not sure which number of shares would be the appropriate
one to use.

smfStrExtr to the end of the string

Posted by: "Jim" buckleca@yahoo.com   buckleca

Fri May 25, 2012 9:07 am (PDT)

I'm using smfStrExtr to extract what I need from the search.

The search finds: "45201020 - Communications Equipment"

I'd like to extract "Communications Equipment" and I can't see how you extract to the end of the string. The best I can do is:

smfstrextr(GetNameExSW(+$A8,"C","Sector",2),"- ","")

which returns: "Communications"

Will the function support this or do I need to combine some other formulas to extract to the end of the string?

Thanks

The technique I use is to append a dummy string value to the end (or to the
beginning if I need something there). I usually use "|" because it's not
typically found in retrieved strings. For example:

=smfStrExtr("45201020 - Communications Equipment" & "|", "- ","|")

Ingenious guy you are!

In my formula:

=+smfstrextr(GetNameExSW(+$A8,"c","Sector",2)& "|", "- ","|")

returns: "Communications Equipment"

Many Thanks

rchgetelementnumber errors

Posted by: "Lucky Pierre" pierre_powell@yahoo.com   pierre_powell

My excel (2010) will no longer pull down certain numbers. For example, the rchgetelementnumber function won't pull company name, dividends from msn or other functions. Yet it will pull certain numbers such as volume; so I believe everything installed correctly. I've been using this for about 3 years and have never had this problem until recently.

Thanks - Pierre

Thanks Randy, I updated this file with no avail. I am also having problems bringing down from non-msn sites. I reinstalled and seem to be stuck. The elements I can't bring down (for example) are 40, 42, 353, 7, 111, 989...)

Thanks

All of those element numbers are working fine here for ticker MMM. Only 989
is non-MSN.

What do you get for:

=RCHGetElementNumber("Version")
=RCHGetElementNumber("MMM",7)
=smfGetAParms(7)
=RCHGetElementNumber("MMM",989)
=smfGetAParms(989)

Porting SMF to Perl?

Posted by: "Malcolm" malcolmdlphillips@yahoo.com   malcolmdlphillips

Is there an explanation somewhere of how the SMF functions work?
I am wondering if they can be ported to Perl or other scripting language.
Does anyone know if this has been done?

The VBA code is open source, so that would be how they work.

I solved the problem. My permissions were denying me the ability to save the new smf-elements-1 file. I had to move the smf folder out of programs to get the permissions to update files. i think it works now!
