Hello Randy,

First of all, thanks a lot for this wonderful tool you've created. It has saved me hours of work, and helped me to make more informed decisions.

On this same topic, I was having problems with the AdvFN links too, after digging in the forums found out about the fix with the .txt prefix file. For me it works perfect for all my AdvFN links. The only minor issue that I have is that now my link to the last price (=RCHGetElementNumber(Ticker,25)) returns error. It is a very very minor thing, but if there is any workaround please let me know.

P.D.: I think the txt file is a very good fix for the AdvFN problem for us international users. Much easier and faster than having to edit code...

Hmmm. Just tried it here and it's working. Most people have complained that
it returns the wrong value, but it's MSN that is posting the wrong value.

You do have the new MSN element definitions, right?

http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/smf_addin/message/18529

The question I'm currently pondering is whether to obsolete element 25, or
fix it and expand to additional fields they now have on the print report.

One issue with it the current way is that it's a very inefficient way to
get current prices, off a print report that needs to be generated.

Ok, must be some other problem on my end, don't worry about it. I haven't used the sheets in quite some time and when I came back nothing was working. I updated things and now I have almost everything working again but I haven't had time to dig into everything. If I have some time I'll dig deeper into my element 25 issue.

Thanks a lot

Many thanks Randy, the beta version works well, I use excel 2003. I will try 2007 later.
Another is the ticker, when I try IBM, then all the cells are error. I check other ticker, works well. If you have time, please check it.

Thank you very much!

Does the cn domain handle IBM differently? It works fine here.

Now works well in Excel 2007, but IBM is still error. I check the URL, it seems that there is no difference.

If you JUST use "IBM" as the ticker symbol, your domain assumes it is the
one on the London Stock Exchange, which has no web pages for quarterly and
annual financial statements data. So, yes, you would get "Error" for
everything.

Yes. I check three tickers:
IBM: NYSE/LSE; ANV: AMEX/TSE; CYAN: NASDAQ/LSE.

So, if it's possible help me to update the template, correct the ticker as: NYSE:IBM,AMEX:ANV,NASDAQ:CYAN......

And I think it works for international stock......

Thanks again!

Hello all,

I am not sure about what you are trying to accomplish. I think you are interested in downloading financial data, for specific companies, in order to purchase shares of the company, If this is true I have developed a rather simple way of getting the data and analyzing it using "web queries". If you are interested the spreadsheets can be downloaded from the link shown below. The files to be downloaded are "SA_6.0.4"(Excel 2007-2010), and "SA_6.0.4(2000) for Excel 97-2003.

I'd rather people use RCHGetYahooQuotes()...

I should never have added something as volatile as Last Price to
RCHGetElementNumber() -- it's not intended for constant updating.

I've come very close to obsoleting element #25 a number of times.

Sounds like a problem in your downloading process. For FireFox, it usually
ends up in the default "Download" folder.

You can download the ZIP archive anywhere you want. You just need to
extract the contents into the folder you plan to use for the add-in and
supplementary files.

So for the add-in to work it does not have to reside in the c:\programs file\smf add-in\ folder

Correct. You can locate the add-in almost any where.

HOWEVER, if you open up a workbook that was saved with the add-in in a
different location, you'll end up with unresolved links that you'll need to
manually fix. See the "Location Errors" item in the "Links" area of the
group.

I actually have mine in the "C:\SMF Add-In" folder, as I had issues
updating the add-in file in Vista when it was in the Program Files folder.

I've been following the changes and the May 10 file did seem to work for awhile. The fix seems to be broken again ... thanks MSN.
i.e. entry #25, "Last Price" is actually returns the previous day's closing price so even after the closing bell we are a day behind.

MSN's formats seems to be a moving target.
On http://investing.money.msn.com/investments/stock-price? ..etc.
(note 'stock-price' not 'stock-report' as in smf-elements-1.txt #25) they have changed the label to "Previous Close" and do not even have a "Last Price" listed.

"Last Price" is not retrieved from the "stock-price" page, but from the
"stock-report" page:

http://investing.money.msn.com/investments/stock-report?symbol=MMM&QD=1&OP=1&Y1=1&CR=1&IH=1&AIE=1&AIR=1&FRH=1&FRK=1&ISA=1&ISQ=1&BSA=1&BSQ=1&CFA=1&CFQ=1&TYS=1&ITT=1&ITP=1

And, it DOES have a "Last Price" field shown. But, yes, MSN is posting the
previous day's close there.

Randy, I have extracted the files within Works In Progress created on April 7,2012, "RCH_Stock_Market_Functions-2.1.2012.04.07.zip" to the following location within my "C" drive location: C\Program Files (x86)\SMF Add-In. So far, so good, but when I open a spreadsheet, I still can't get MSN data.
You have a revised "smf-elements-1.txt" in Works In Progress dated May 10, 2012 which contains updates to MSN data element definitions. I assume that this revision should replace "smf-elements-1.txt" dated April 7, 2012. As I noted earlier, I opened and copied the May 10th version, and tried to paste it as a replacement of the April 7th version which appears within my C\Program Files (x86)\SMF Add-In, but to no avail. How do I get this latest May 10th revision into my SMF Add-In file to replace the current April 7 version? How do I "download the new file and use it as a replacement for the file in the add-in folder." I am running Win7 and Excel 2010.

I know nothing about Win7 or EXCEL 2010. On Vista, I would just tell
FireFox to download the file, and then drag and drop it into the folder
from where it was downloaded. I would get a warning that I'm replacing an
existing file, which I would tell it go ahead and do.

By the way, putting it into the (x86) folder is going to mean you probably
won't match the configuration of anyone that uploads files. So you'll need
to be editing unresolved links if you use other people's workbooks. See the
"Location Errors" item in the "Links" area of the group for info on that.
