Randy -

I can do Morningstar "Library Premium" Stock Screens and I get a webpage that I can copy and paste into Excel.  As you can imagine "Library Premium" is not the same as "Premium" ($).  The problem is that "Library Premium" does not return Ticker Symbols.  It returns the Company Name.  I wrote some Excel equations to extract the symbol, but they were only about 60% successful.  It is easier just to manually extract time wise.
As you know "3M Co" is different than "3M Co."  If I match the left 5 characters, I get an answer.  The left 6 characters do not match.  This is only one example.

Is there any charade like function (Sounds Like) in Excel that you know?  Is there another way to extract the symbol?

I could always sign up for M* Premium.

On a similar listing, I suggested pulling the ticker symbol from the link
in the table cell with the name -- see:

Ron, I got this window when I tried to open the file. Can you recheck it. At least my virus software thinks it is unsafe as does Microsoft office.

The one I wrote is here:

http://bribg.pbworks.com/w/file/50396066/Step-by-Step SMF Add-In.doc

It is not referred to in Links, and it does not contain any sample equations. So, I take it back. I didn't write it.

Hi!

I find this doc by google.
I think it is well construct for Excel 2010. This doc should be in file group. But this is only a suggest.

In next 2 months I am going to try get some fundamental analysis. I hope make some experiences with stock market. Only start very slowly.

Many thanks
Obrigado
Jose

I wrote the Step-by-Step SMF Add-In.doc. I am glad you found it useful. I wrote it when I taught a small class of investors who thought they were interested in learning how to use Excel for getting stock data. I documented my experiences in my upgrade from Excel 2003 to Excel 2010. It took me a couple of days to get Excel 2010 not "locked down" and working with the Add-In. My target audience didn't have the regional problems.

Did you get the Step-by-Step from this group? I don't think that I ever uploaded it here.

Hi!

Finally I have some success with Excel 2010.

Some suggest who start with Excel 2010.

1º I follow this doc: Step-by-Step SMF Add-In.doc Very good.

But... when I try... problems... and what are my problem???

2º Regional configuration.
In my country I have to change the "," by ";" and ... voilá... problem solved!
Ufa!!
Example: In this file: SMF-Addin-Combined-Documentation-010212_N.pdf
If I put this:
=RCHGetElementNumber("IBM", 941) I have a error, but if I put:
=RCHGetElementNumber("IBM"; 941) solved.

In the document pdf there are many command that not work

Regards
Jose

I wrote it and saved it using Libre Office.  I just checked it with Avast Virus Scan.  I am sure that M$ is just trying to protect it's territory.

I have attached a .pdf file if that makes you more comfortable.

Take a look at the "Quickly Find All External Links In Your Worksheet" section of this newsletter:

http://www.theexceladdict.com/nlarchive/100707ais.htm

It may uncover some rogue links in one of your worksheets.
