To which functionality are you referring? You can find more information on
the smfForceRecalculation and smfUpdateDownloadTable macros in the LINKS
area of the group. But neither of them is an "automatic update" process.

The "date" value is just one value in the array. Select an array of cells that's 2 columns by 15 rows. Hit F2 and type in =rchgetyahoohistory("aapl";,,,,,,,"v") (entering the ticker you want) and then hit control shift enter. You can also put the ticker in a cell so it's easy to change. The date by default will be formatted as a number, you should format it as a date.

You just need to enter it as an array formula. Search the conversations, see the help, or Google excel and array formula. It's well covered.
A specific example for Yahoo dividend history is in the Files / Templates section of this group. See SMF-Template-Yahoo-Historical-Quotes.xls. It is setup for pricing. To get dividends the trick is to put a "V" in the "period" box. You can blank out the "items" flags.

It be nice, as it is with so many other fundamental areas covered already, that Dividends was covered in the FY1-FY10 format.
For instance, I already pull in and graph, things like: EPS for FY1 - FY10, Book Value for FY1-FY10, Sales for FY1-FY10, ROE% for FY1-FY10, I am not sure why there needs to be a struggle just to get the same thing for Dividends. I do not see this in the listing.

If you want them by fiscal years, you could try AdvFN elements #5896 thru
#5905...

Most people want dividends by calendar periods rather than fiscal periods.
They don't always line up the same, for comparisons between companies. And
getting them from the annual financials will always mean reporting delays
for the most recent period.

I have a list of muni bond cusips and am using the add-in to access information on the Emma site.(the description) I would like to actually return the link to the OS PDF document that is found towards the bottom of the page. It would be even cooler if I could also (via addin) retrieve a paragraph of text from the pdf as well.
That would make my life and excel worksheet complete. Not really, but would be awesome.
Thanks.

Without a sample URL, I can't give details.

Retrieval of the link should be possible. But I've only seen one instance
where data could be extracted from a PDF, since the data is typically not
stored as actual text.

You should be able to get the name of the PDF file with something like:

=smfstrExtr(smfGetTagContent("
http://emma.msrb.org/SecurityView/SecurityDetails.aspx?cusip=130483AM","td",2,"Download
Document"),"href=""/","""")

Just concatenate the domain to the front to get the link.

However, the content of the PDF document is encoded, so I don't see a way
for the add-in to extract anything from it. I'm sure there are other tools
that can do a PDF to TXT conversion, but I don't currently use any.

SMF is "screen scraping" - it does not maintain any data files of its own.

You can use it to scrape any website using functions such as RCHGetTableCell, RCHGetWebData, SMFGetTagContent and so on. The GetElement and some of the other functions are just Randy providing an easier method so each person doesn't have to hand-code the details of the "scrape".

Sorry, but the output isn't within the source code of the web page, so it's
not accessible to the add-in.

=smfPricesByDates("TICKER", today())

Not recommended. That first gets historical quotes from Yahoo, and then
fills it in from this function if it's not there and later than the latest
historical date:

=RCHGetYahooQuotes("MMM","l1")

So you'd end up with two Internet accesses for each quote. You're better
off just using the function above, and getting it directly with one
Internet access. Plus, it can get you data on up to 200 ticker symbols with
a single Internet access.
