Hi Randy, I attached snapshots of what I see with Chrome on Win7. I can download files from each of the links. Thank you for your continued efforts and support for such a terrific tool.

Because I've been unhappy with the last few FILES area updates for Yahoo groups, I'm trying to decide if I should put a rudimentary replacement on the Internet.

I'm curious what people see with these:

http://www.ogres-crypt.com/SMF/

http://www.ogres-crypt.com/SMF/_index.html

Are they the same? Can you even access them?

It looks like I could change my hosting plan and get unlimited bandwidth easily. So it might even be possible to have the element definitions online for automatic updates. I don't know if that adds more danger or convenience.

I don't see much difference between this and the yahoo group. I am not a big fan of yahoo's new groups layout and screens. Tough on us old folks to read.

My biggest problem with the content in the yahoo group files is that obsolete files are left there for years.

I'm really okay with either. Hopefully it will be one or the other but not both. Would be a nightmare for you to keep in sink.

You already do too much for us lazy users.

Kermit

Links & folders work fine. They appear differently. No pop ups. I use excel 2013 & win 8

Several advantages to a website:

1. I can have direct links to the files and documentation.

2. I can organize the listings any way I want, even listing files in
multiple places (e.g. "Yahoo" templates)

3. When you use a file from the Yahoo group, it's downloaded first to your
computer, and then the local copy is opened. In Firefox, that can require
one or more confirmation boxes where "OK" needs to be clicked before a file
is opened. I find that a pain with the Documentation files. A minor issue,
I know. But annoying, nonetheless.

4. I can add back usable file descriptions

5. I may be able to access the element definitions directly from the web,
so there can be auto updates

For now, the question is how I want to organize the web pages. I'll
actually store the data in a workbook and have EXCEL generate the web pages.

Hi - me again :) Win XP Pro SP3 / FF 27.0.1 w/ extensive addin's. Forgot to mention before that hover boxes worked - and done properly, they are helpful.
1) yes 2) yes 3) Sometimes - for me, PDF's can be opened "one-click". 4) Yes, and perhaps even a search of descriptions. 5) Yes - but don't let those overwhelm your site. Perhaps only permit weekly updates? Perhaps only if content changes?
HTH- worth what you paid - YMMV etc. - tbs

RE: Were the popup boxes useful on the Documentation and Template pages?

Each opened a properly formatted single web page in the SAME browser window
(would be better, to me, if it opened in a new tab or a new window).

Hi Randy,
Agreed that YAHOO has broken itself. Much prefer either of your solutions
to YAHOO's awkward new interface.
RE:

http://www.ogres-crypt.com/SMF/_index.html

Are they the same? Can you even access them?"

I can access each of them, using IE 10.0
Also with latest Chrome
Also with FireFox

Here's what I see (pretty much the same with them all)
http://www.ogres-crypt.com/SMF/:
This one is a browser's view of an FTP file structure. Works ok, but a bit
more awkward than the _index.html. I'd bet that the FTP version would take
a lot less effort on your part, and works fine for my purposes.

http://www.ogres-crypt.com/SMF/_index.html:
Quick, and nice to access but not enough better to put much effort into
(IMHO)>

Thanks for all you do! I'm glad to test anything you want tested on Windows
8 using all three of the named browsers.

Found it! In the Trust Center, under Add-ins, the "Require Application Add-ins to be signed by Trusted Publisher" checkbox was checked. Thanks!
