There is post on the xltraders group about obtaining free historical quotes from tiingo.com.

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/xltraders/conversations/topics/10132

The author of the post has created a new free spreadsheet that will download the quotes.

Subject: [smf_addin] Re: Other historical quote services

I've looked at quite a number of services, free and paid. I require dividend adjusted close data which some may not require but it's harder to come by.

Quandl offers free downloadable company price history from Wiki. I tried their Quote Media service for a month and found dozens of errors in just 20+- ETFs I tracked. Worse, QM was unresponsive after I sent them a detailed list of errors. Other services I checked, which offer adjusted close data were very expensive and many are institutional only.

I ended up building a QuoteServer to obtain and serve data from multiple sources and maintain my own dividend history for a limited number of ETFs. I have long been a Norgate subscriber for my chart work so I use them as my primary source of exchange data. I export that data to Ascii and then process against the dividend database to create adjusted close for 30+- ETFs and OEFs. Y remains my backup for adhoc needs; however I carefully check each symbol I use.

I grazed the read me, but didn't see anything that looked like this API could retrieve Historical Company Financial Data? ie. EPS, Dividends, Dividend date etc. (for historical searches).

I've found dozens of websites that have the current Corp Financial data for free, but I need historical.

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Data can be retrieved from a number of sources. For example, financials:

http://www.advfn.com/stock-market/NYSE/MMM/financials?
btn=annual_reports&mode=company_data
http://financials.morningstar.com/income-statement/is.html?
t=MMM®ion=USA&culture=en_US
https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/MMM/financials?p=MMM
https://www.gurufocus.com/financials/MMM
https://www.barchart.com/stocks/quotes/MMM/income-statement/annual

For dividends and earnings:

https://www.zacks.com/stock/research/MMM/earnings-announcements#earnings_announcements_dividends
https://www.gurufocus.com/dividend/MMM
https://www.barchart.com/stocks/quotes/MMM/price-history/corporate-actions
http://performance.morningstar.com/stock/performance-return.action?p=dividend_split_page&t=MMM®ion=usa&culture=en-US

How many periods of data for Morningstar and GuruFocus will depend on if
you are a member or not.

Easiest is probably to grab one or more of the CSV files from Morningstar:
