Should be an easy process. I would add two steps:

1.5) Exit EXCEL (which is implied by step 3).

2.5) Since I don't update the ZIP file every time I make changes to element
definitions, grab any updated element definitions:

http://ogres-crypt.com/SMF/Elements

If you already had up-to-date element definitions, just prevent the add-in
from overwriting those files with older files when you extract from the ZIP
file in step (2).

Randy,

I did it my way and it works. GetVersion now returns:

Stock Market Functions add-in, Version 2.1.2017.05.03 (C:\SMF Add-In; Windows (32-bit) NT :.00; 15.0; ; ; 1)

The file RCHGetElementNumber-Element-Definitions.xls has a date of 5/2/2017 and a size of 2965KB.

Therefore I conclude I have the current version of SMF. Do you agree?

The XLS file is not the element definitions themselves. It is what
documents the elements that are available.

You need to check each of the smf-elements-*.txt files. However, the only
element changes uploaded since then was:

smf-elements-8.txt <http://ogres-crypt.com/SMF/Elements/smf-elements-8.txt>

Earnings.com data elements
2017-05-02: Zacks web page changes
2017-07-17: Fix #1301-#1305

I didn't update the XLS file for that change because I'm in the process of
updating Yahoo mutual fund element definitions, so it's a mixed bag at this
point.

Which version of the add-in are you using? Are your element definitions
up-to-date?
