A few days ago someone asked about a spreadsheet to detect earnings changes. The information below has nothing to do with the SMF-Addin but is in response to a previous posting on changes in fundamentals, particularly Earnings.

I apologize if this is out of line for this group.

The below announcement for the RAMP RT-Alerts program isn't a spreadsheet but Andy Skinner is a friend of mine and the author has recently add Real-Time alerts on 58 different fundamentals.

I have used Andy's RAMP program for years and I am an affiliate and resell Andy's products. I am not trying to sell this to anyone just letting know it exist if it will help you. In case you are wondering, My affiliate code is not part of the links below.

I have not tried the Fundamental alerts as I am a short term traders and do not pay much attention to fundamentals. Other than Dividends.

Kermit,
Thanks to all of you who responded to my request for favorite Fundamental Parameters. The response was really great. I expected to see the same few Fundamental Parameters requested by most users. I was very surprised to see that there were many different fundamentals requested. It seems that the 80 some fundamental traders who got back to me had very different ideas about what was most important. The good news is that nearly all parameters requested are included in the Yahoo Key Statistics Page <https://app.getresponse.com/click.html?x=a62b&lc=BFw59&mc=BH&s=LX0U&y=i&> . With this information in hand, I have added all 58 Fundamental Parameter from Yahoo Key Statistics to RT-Alerts <https://app.getresponse.com/click.html?x=a62b&lc=BFw5F&mc=BH&s=LX0U&y=X&> .
In RT-Alerts just click on settings and select your favorite symbols, patterns, time frames and fundamentals. Then let RT-Alerts do all the work finding just what you want to see.
You can even include fundamental date scans. Enter the dates in the format yyyymmdd as in 10121209 for Dec. 12, 2012 and RT-Alerts will handle them just like any other fundamental value.
<http://www.ramprt.com/ramp-real-time-alerts/images/RT-Alerts-Fundamentals.gif>
The data is stored in an easy to access local Fundamentals data file. Just one click in RT-Alerts brings up a spreadsheet with all 58 fundamental values for every symbol.

You can install RT-Alerts at www.RT-Alerts.com <https://app.getresponse.com/click.html?x=a62b&lc=BFw5F&mc=BH&s=LX0U&y=X&> .
Thank you.

Unfortunately, it would be useless to have real time alert on some things,
like ex-dividend date, because updating of it on Yahoo is usually delayed a
week or two from the declaration.

I'm switching from a PC to a Mac and before I resort to a solution that will run Windows on my Mac I wanted to check:

Has anyone found a way to successfully use this add-in on a Mac?

I think if you use Windows emulation software, you can use it...

Thanks a lot! Worked like a charm.

Hi Guys,

I've been using this whole add-in for a few years...it is really amazing. Anyway, I'm having some trouble with the smfGetEconData. I want to change the frequency of a SeriesID and I'm not sure how to do it within the function. I work around my problem by using the FRED Add-In, I download lets say the Series ID "unrate", the monthly US unemployment rate. The data comes in monthly so after it is downloaded to the spreadsheet, a few rows down from the Series ID I change the "M" to "A" and "Update" the results. Doing this changes the monthly unemployment rate to an annual unemployment rate. Then I just use VLookup to get the unemployment rate I want...etc

So after all that rambling, in short: how can I just do this using the smfGetEconData function?

Thanks in advance!

Justin

When I look at the file I uploaded a few years ago, the "unrate" series was
only offered monthly:

http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/smf_addin/files/Requested%20Samples/St-Louis-Fed-Econ-Files-Series-IDs.html

Also, several people over on TMF compiled this list of FRED data:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/45054803/FRED%20Complete%20Database.xls

It could be that with the FRED Add-in, they expanded the available data
series. This is the file that the smfGetEconData() function accesses:

https://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/data/unrate.txt

I don't use the FRED data myself, so I really haven't looked at it much
since 2009.

But, in terms of getting the annual data using smfGetEconData(), couldn't
you get each year-end value from the monthly file? For example:

=smfGetEconData("unrate",DATE(2010,12,1))
=smfGetEconData("unrate",DATE(2011,12,1))

You could easily create a series of dates to use as cell references.
