Thanks for the reply.

Appreciate the add-in is made for ad-hoc and not data mining. Not planning to make a business out of it, just a 1 time thing mining bit of data to do some research myself on non US markets.

For some reason it does not jam up on an old computer running. Not sure what you meant by the smfForceRecalculation or how to get that to work.

O have seen the Excel Add-in and API tools on the Gurufocus website, but I am not that familiar and found your add-in easier to work with.

Check the "Tips and FAQs" page for more information on the
smfForceRecalculation and smfUpdateDownloadTable macros. It sounds like
what you're doing would work best as an smfUpdateDownloadTable process,
since it leaves values in the tables and not formulas, which allows you to
do the process piecemeal easily (just highlight the rows you want to update
and run the macro).

I've attached a very small example of an smfUpdateDownloadTable workbook
using several GuruFocus data items.

In general, the process I would use to update:

1. Run the smfForceRecalculation macro to purge all saved web pages
2. Highlight the rows I want to update (otherwise it will update *all* rows)
3. Run the smfUpdateDownloadTable macro (processing status will be shown in
the EXCEL status line)

Try it on just a few rows, even if all you did to the rows was to add the
ticker symbols. It can actually be kind of fun watching it populate empty
rows with data. :)

I have both of those macros assigned to buttons on my EXCEL toolbar so they
are readily accessible whenever I need them.

The two formulas in the message thread I pointed you to before work fine
for me...

You may have to make adjustments to your Internet Options to get some web sites to work. For example, check the "Tips and FAQs" web page for AdvFN items. It's my understanding that the cross domains fix for AdvFN also fixes any issue with Google.

Otherwise, I'd need more specifics.

The RCHGetElementNumber() data elements are really just saved versions of other functions, so you could use some of the other functions to go after the data directly.

For financial statements data, be sure to check out the templates. Some are for RCHGetElementNumber() functions, but others use other add-in functions. These days, my preferred financials data source is GuruFocus, but I'm a subscriber. A large chunk of there data is limited to subscribers only.

I'm a new member, I installed the add in but apparently I can only get data from Yahoo when I enter the code from RCHGetElementNumber-Element-Definitions. All other codes that refer to other sites generate an error. Can anyone direct me on how to get financial statements from other sites or give me some uselful links where I can get an asnwer?

Hi Randy,

I fixed the problem going to IE options. Now the codes work fine also for Google. I downloaded the Advfn template to get the 10y financial statements. Some tickers work (eg. msft, ba, mmm), some others give me an error message (eg goog, cost). Do you know any specific reason for that?

If I go to the ADVfn website I can get the data fot those tickers that give me error on the spreadsheet. I live in Dubai and I also tried to connect to the US website using a VPN connection.

Thanks again!

If you live in Dubai, you may need to use the regional AdvFN fix as well,
since AdvFN redirects to a regional URL. That means default exchanges and
such change. I'm not sure how well things work outside the U.S. since the
last few AdvFN updates. I have no way to test regional changes, since it
doesn't happen to me.

Easiest way to check what URL you're getting is to use the EXCEL Web Query
dialog, go to the www.advfn.com URL and see if you get redirected to a
different URL. You can also try that in IE.
