Do you mean Auto-Complete functionality? With a data validation dropdown list in a cell, that is not supported by Excel. On her excellent Contextures site Debra Dalgleish provides a workaround using VBA (macros).  Here are links to that topic on her site and to a YouTube video she made about it:
