Randy,

Have you ever prepared an earnings report data macro?

I see a Yahoo webpage where one can get expected earnings reports by incrementing weeks. You seem pretty proficient with yahoo pages have you seen this one? http://biz.yahoo.com/research/earncal/20120402.html

What would you want to extract from the page? I've not found them
particularly useful.

Randy,

There are candle stick pattern search routines that can locate trending patterns in say the last 3 months worth of price quotes. With spreadsheet price and live price data a buy and sell stop limits can be set by the prior OHLC. To be effective one would need live price ticks.

I can supply on published authors pattern recognition equations.

Did I happen to see you attending a Steve Bigalow's CandleStickForum or Hit&RunCandlesticks presentation last week?

Bigalow methods have made me a modest fortune in the last 45 days.

I've not found candlesticks to be particularly predictive, but maybe I've
looked at them wrong. I've done pattern recognition in the past and applied
it to data. But I'm willing to listen...

I didn't attend a presentation. :)

","a",-1,"/IssueDetails.")

Warrant Price Issue

Hi All,

I'm using the following line in excel
=RCHGetElementNumber("c-wta",25)

Basically just trying to retrieve the price of the Citigroup Warrants Series A. When using yahoo finance webquote page I simply enter C-WTA into the box and the price shows up.

However, for some reason it doesn't work with my excel line.

Any help/advice would be appreciated thanks!

Element #25 comes from an MSN stock page, so there's no reason to expect it
to get the data.

Instead, try the quotes function:

=RCHGetYahooQuotes("C-WTA","l1")

I get "Error" message for some formulas

Posted by: "bmshah77" bmshah77@yahoo.com   bmshah77

Wed Feb 15, 2012 11:03 pm (PST)

I am getting an "Error" message for some forumlas. I installed the zip files in the C:\Program Files\SMF Add-In as per the instructions. Now when I open my excel file I notice that all the fields with formulas do have their respective values (meaning the formulas are working). But in order for me to do anything I need to click on Enable Content as my version is Office 2010. As soon as I do that I get the "Error" message for some formulas whereas others seems to be working fine. The "Error" message is seen especially in cells that are trying to pull data from investors.com. I do have the addin installed in excel. Any ideas why I'm seeing this issue.

Thanks.

Without knowing the specific formulas that are giving you "Error", it's
difficult to help.

For the enable content issue, you should take a look at the "Location
Error" entry of the "Links" area of the group, as well as take a quick
look around at the other entries there.

As far as "Error" returns from investors.com -- they just changed their
URL structure, so data is now a lot more difficult to get. You need more
than just a ticker symbol to create the URL. See:

Hi Randy

Would you be kind enough to advise why "instr" is preferred instead of "getElementByTagName" in the function please?

Because getElementByTagName wouldn't work -- I'm using the text response of
the XMLHTTP protocol instead of the XML response.

That's because I found HTML objects worked inconsistently over the various
permutations of IE and EXCEL versions that can be combined. Some of the
HTML object code I had working in EXCEL 2002 totally failed when I upgraded
to EXCEL 2007. I don't even know what versions of IE I was using in each.

inconsistent is the keyword.
No wonder I always get bombed out in the least expected moment.
Maybe I should stick to xmlhttp then

As it is not ticker based, it is cumbersome to setup and export a CSV file for eventual inclusion into a master spreadsheet. If I wish to add a ticker or two, it would be far simpler to make direct use of the SMF add-in utility. I seek the easiest way, not a convoluted one.

RCHGetYahooQuotes()

Hello,

I discovered you fantastic tool, many thanks for this sweet add-on.
I am having a small issue with my array-entered formula sheet.
How can I preform data filtering and sorting while using a array-entered formula?
For example: I want to track which stock had the most significant day's change. Normally I would select the corresponding column and sort by values + to -. When i attempt this I get the "cannot change part of an array" error. I tried creating a mirror of the data contained in the spreadsheet but that did not work either.
Any ideas on a work around?

Many thanks

TM

Keep in mind that all you really need to sort are the ticker symbols.
Once they are in the order you want, the array-entered range will
automatically update. And it updates quickly since the entire range is
just a single Internet access.

What I've done in some cases is just create a "Sort" column next to the
ticker symbols, and then just sort those two columns. Then you don't
need to mirror all of the data. But you do need to redo the "Sort"
column if you want a different sort sequence. Or you could create
multiple sort columns if you do a number of different sorts regularly.
