You need to be exit and restart EXCEL in order to load the new add-in.
Add-ins are loaded when EXCEL starts up.

hi randy,

i'm obviously stalking this problem through multiple posts (this is my third message on this) - apologies on frequency.

you mentioned in this reply that you changed the folder of your add-in to c: instead of c:\program files.

that's not in your current "install" documentation - should i be doing that?

Really, you can locate the add-in anywhere you want. It's just that it
makes files more difficult to share when two people have it in different
locations. Right now, any new files I upload will use the C:\ location, but
most files -- the older files -- still use the C:\Program Files location.

When I open up an older file, I just run the smfFixLinks macro that I have
in the add-in. I think the way it is right now would fix all location
errors.

Getting Data from Value Line pdf files

Posted by: "E John" JWhelchel@comcast.net   whelchelej

Hi Randy,

Thanks very much for this very useful add-in and the yahoo support group. I have been using the add-in for some time.

Is there a way to use the add-in or one of the templates to extract data from a Value Line pdf file? I note that there are ways to extract data from Morningstar. In addition, I see on the group website some prior e-mails on templates that appear to extract data from Value Line web pages. The web pages I think have fewer data points than the pdf reports, so it would be more useful to extract data from the pdf reports. There's an added benefit that once you have a subscription, which I do, extracting data from downloaded pdf files does not involve extracting large amounts of data from a web page on a free basis.

Any help you could give on this point would be very greatly appreciated.

John

I believe there are tools out there to extract data out of PDF files,
depending on how it was built, but the add-in isn't one of them. Sorry.

version not upgrading

ok, this may be the problem.

-- The specific function(s) or template(s) you are having problems with.
-- The parameter(s) you are using with the function(s).

my version (RCHGetElementNumber("Version") still says 2.1.2012.01.30.

when i open the source file, it says 2012-02-02 at the top. when i open the .txt file 7 for AdvFN, there's no "www" or "us" URL anywhere in the file.

all my AdvFN calls are getting "Errors."

-- The version of EXCEL you use.
version 14.06.6112.5000 (32-bit)

-- The operating system you're running EXCEL under.
microsoft windows 7 home premium version 6.1.7601 SP1 Build 7601

-- The steps you took to try to resolve the problem.
i've re-extracted the newest zip files into the SMF Add-in folder
i've tested my formulas against non AdvFN sites and they mostly seem to work
advfn is the only one with annuals going back 10 yrs, so there are no comparables for 10yrs back

-- The ticker symbols or URLs that are being used.
i've used easy ones like IBM to test.

-- The results you expect to get and what you actually get
this all started happening really these last few wks - all my cells had been calculating correctly until a few wks ago.

AdvFN isn't going to work until you upgrade to 2.1.2012.02.02, because of
the flip-flop they did of the domain names.

Historical prices won't pull in for specific SP5 telecom ETF

Posted by: "naderphilip" naderphilip@yahoo.com   naderphilip

Hello,
I can't seem to pull in the historical prices for ticker: XTL (Select Spyder Telecom ETF.
I've used the same formula for plenty other companies and tickers in my spreadsheet but for some reason this one won't calculate the closing prices after 12/1/2011.
I'm using the RCHgetyahoohistory- i've tried inputting the dates as well as just highlighting an array and it still stops at 12/1/2011.

Would anyone happen to know why?

I just tried:

=RCHGetYahooHistory("XTL")

...and it worked fine for me. Could you possibly have your regional
settings on something that doesn't conform to mm/dd/yyyy? That would cause
VBA to have an issue when it tried to convert the dates.
