Thanks Randy,

Had a real "well duh" moment shortly after sending the note about "download.finance.yahoo.com" returning an error when entered in a browser. Realized, and you confirmed, that of course the address does not refer to website. I did track down the source of the problem though. I had been using this address as the base for intra-day data downloads from Yahoo - http://download.finance.yahoo.com/d/ecn.csv?s= http://download.finance.yahoo.com/d/ecn.csv?s= . The address had been working fine, but stopped yesterday morning. After replacing "ecn.csv" with "quotes.csv" the quote download went perfectly. My memory is fuzzy on why I had ecn.csv in the address rather than quotes.csv in the first place. I'm guessing Yahoo uses the different these addresses as a sort of parameter that determines the type of data being requested and perhaps the item mnemonics that will be recognized. I'm guessing "ecn" might return economic data when given the proper mnemonics?

I've been following your work since the around 2007-2008 timeframe. I think I found one of the original releases of your downloader and have loved it ever since. Always appreciate your generosity and help.

Thank you Randy. Worked like a charm and another piece of the "how all this works" puzzle has fallen into place. Best regards. Jim

Subject: Re: [smf_addin] Latest version of smf is 2014?

Usage codes -- S=Stock, E=ETF, F=Mutual Fund. Elements don't apply to all types of equities.

The MorningStar Current Valuation elements were some of the last ones I added, so you would need the latest version of the smf-elements-4.txt file from the "Works in Progress" web page on the web site. After replacing the file in the add-in's folder on your machine, you'll either need to restart EXCEL or run the smfForceRecalculation macro for the add-in to reload the element definitions from those external files.

Thanks Randy. Your detailed explanation accelerated my learning curve quite a bit. I found the XLS document with the sources and codes a bit earlier. What are the "Usage" codes in column C?

I also started playing with the Morning Star Stock - Template. Pretty neat! I'm still a little weak on evaluating stocks and this looks like it should help me. The values in the Current Evaluation section at the bottom of the template are coming back as Undefined (element nos. 14472 - 14492). I see that they are coming from MorningStarCV2 source. Does that suggest a problem with the source? More likely, I'm not set up right.
