Oh My Goodness.

For =smfGetAParms(2742), sometimes I get blank result and sometimes get the [Google;Quarterly Income Statement -- Date -- FQ1;http://www.google.com/finance?fstype=ii&q=~~~~~;1;INCINTERIMDIV;(except for per share items); ; ;0;

Very Strange. You won't believe it.

If I create a brand new excel workbook and enter the GetAParms query I will get blank result. But if I open an old workbook which contains some RCHGetElementNumber queries (which works perfectly before), and then go back to the new workbook and recalculate the GetAParms query, it will return the proper results. Looks like the old workbook can wake up something.

Forgot to mention one very important point.

The "old workbook which contains existing RCHGetElementNumber" is from my friend. I remember the first time I opened it, I have to change the source link to my RCH_Stock_Market_Functions.xla in my C Drive. Maybe this workbook has stored some data from my friends computer and it confuses itself?

I don't know what to tell you. Everything looks good there -- it will be
blank if you haven't done any element number retrievals prior to doing
smfGetAParms().

What do you get with:

=RCHGetTableCell("http://www.google.com/finance?fstype=ii&q=AAPL",1,"per
share items")
=smfGetTagContent("http://www.google.com/finance?fstype=ii&q=AAPL","tr",-1,"per
share items")

I get error for both query.

I was trying to reinstall my Office2007Pro to clean every thing. But after I reinstall the office (I even changed directory to D drive) that, I open up Excel and it automatically reconfigure the add-ins and the SMF plug-in is already there(the most recently opened files list is there as well, there means the uninstallation is not clean). There is no way I can completely delete the the Plug-in and every thing and re-install the Plug-in.

Thanks.

If you're getting errors on both queries, it likely isn't even retrieving
the web page. Can you do a web query on it?

The way to delete the add-in is to uncheck it within the add-in manager,
then exit EXCEL, and then delete the add-in contents and folder.

Another Strange thing.
When I press the enter button, the computer displays Error immediately instead of normally waiting for a second or two to load the content. It is like it is presumed to be error without trying.

It would depend on whether it needs to retrieve the web page from the
Internet, or whether it already has a copy stored. But if it can't retrieve
a copy of the web page in the first place, you'll always get Error until
you can get a fresh copy of the web page (either via smfForceRecalculation
or by exiting and restarting EXCEL).

When you say web query do you mean go to "Data" then "From Web" then type in the URL address?

Yup. I always use the keyboard shortcut: alt+d+d+w

After you enter the URL and go to the web page, make sure it doesn't
redirect you to a different one...and then try to import the results.

Hmmm. I just tried it to check it out, and it tells me the web query
imported no results. Curious. That's usually a sign that the add-in won't
be able to grab data from the web page. But the formulas I've given you
work for me, so I know the add-in is accessing the web page here...

Dear Randy,

You are right, I have some trouble with accessing the URL with Excel. I
have attached screen shorts.

1st case. I type in www.google.com/finance and step by step to get to the
statement page. It keeps pop up Security Warning Window and Script Error
window and then it says contents does not exist. So I cannot even view the
statements.

2nd case. I copy and paste the address
http://www.google.com/finance?fstype=ii&q=AAPL then I can view the
statements even though the Security Warnning still pops up. Then I press
the small yellow tick to import the statement, excel says the web query
returns no data.

Thanks.

I'm concerned that the URL in the screen shot is NOT the web address you're
entering. It looks like it is redirecting you to an https web page, which
may be why you get the security warning.

It appears something is interfering on with your ability to retrieve that
web page, which would explain why the add-in is having problems.

Problem solved!

Dear Randy,

Finally, problem solved. It is the problem of IE security settings. I normally use Chrome and IE left untouched for a while. Since Excel Web browsing is base on IE so I opened up the IE browser. There was a notification about security settings which is between the Tab and the content page. I clicked on it and confirm something allowed (I forget what it exactly is), then back to excel and it pops up a security warning window ask whether I want to proceed. Sure I did and everything works.

Thank you very much for your help
